Technically, Neverland is a fictional location featured in the works of J. M. Barrie and those based on them. It is an imaginary faraway place, where Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys and other mythical creatures and beings live. It is a place where you never grow old. You don’t lose your sense of adventure to a career or family, you always get to have fun, and it’s on a deserted island.
For me, Neverland is a metaphor for happiness and the word we create around us. We are constantly searching for what makes us happy and it is all so temporary, making us feel like we are on a constant hunt for happiness. Work, food, clothes, cars- they all will never make you happy because you will want the next best thing 5 seconds later. The chase to happiness is what that is called. Imagine a donkey with a carrot on the end of the string, he will never get that carrot. That is similar in the case of happiness. I am on a much different journey, one that allows me to be present in the state of happiness. This “cases” gives us a continuous angst that nothing is ever good enough and more will always be needed. We foolishly think that happiness is something that will happen to us or a state that we will arrive at- it’s not. Happiness is a state of mind that we choose. How, you might be screaming? I am still learning the “how” and recommend reading to help you on your journey: The Art of Happiness. The Art of Happiness.
Relating to this blog, Finding Neverland is the story of realization as to the true journey to find happiness. Creating My Neverland is the documentation and journaling of the experience of finding happiness and being happy. Nourishing Neverland is taking care of this happiness and all the components within. Neverland is our happiness, our lives and realities that we create and are constantly re-creating. Everyone’s Neverland looks different, and it should be. We all aren’t stimulated the same. Not all things that make me happy will also make you happy.
Whatever is your journey, honor it AND yourself. Make use of the time that you have on this Earth as that is the most valuable and limited resource we have. Create your Neverland and then protect & nourish it!
